Stop Worshipping Blind Consistency. You Need This more than you think!
Consistency is only half the truth!

(CC-50)
The Internet Gurus have been selling a huge myth since the beginning of time (or in this case, the Internet), and I’m sick of it.
Consistency is all you need.
Well, hello? What about those like me who’ve been writing for years and going nowhere?
Yes. Maybe it was all you needed, in a faraway time, when there was no such thing as a creator economy.
But in 2025? It’s the most dangerous advice.
Consistency isn’t enough.
I once believed this to be the gospel truth: Write daily, and that’s it. You’ll be successful.
But as the world evolved, so did the way of working.
Today, you cannot just start writing consistently on 3 platforms and expect banging results.
You need direction.
The Creator Hellhole
If you’re being blindly consistent, you’re in for years of frustration, no money, and no clarity.
Consistency builds your writing muscle, but what about your decision-making muscles?
When I was being blindly consistent, back in early 2021, I was hopping from one platform to another, with no real insights, with no idea what my audience wanted from me.
Trust me, it was a disaster.
It doesn’t help that algorithms love to play with your mind. When one platform changes its algorithm, some other platform seems to thrive, and that’s it. Creators flock over to the new one like sheep!
I’ve been on that bandwagon more times than I’d like.
It’s not just a disaster for your focus, but also for the trust you’re trying to build with your audience.
Contrary to this, creators who have a clear vision and direction stick to the things that work for them, and focus on the needle-moving tasks- solving real problems of their audience, creating products that take you closer to their vision, and creating banger content week after week.
It’s not just consistency that helps them do that for years, but a clear direction.
Yes. They make mistakes on the way, too, but they correct them faster than those who are just writing for likes and comments.
Why? Because they know where they want to take their brand.
The bottom line? You need direction.
But, how?
First, take action. You won’t create the reality you want by living inside your head. The first step is always to take some action. No matter how small, no matter how imperfect. But start doing it. Start building your writing muscle. Pick at least 2 platforms, one for short-form writing and one for long-form, like Substack.
Once you’re reasonably consistent, start taking minor risks. Try a new digital product, or a free giveaway, or a free webinar like I did. Start undertaking new experiments and share the results in public, like I did.
Do it for a long time. Gaining your audience’s trust is a long-term game. Create banger content week after week, and show your credibility. Solve real problems through your content.
Make more mistakes. yes. But also, correct them. I once created a free product that didn’t sell well. Instead of making it better, I totally abandoned it and stopped selling it. The moment I made a massive mistake, I’d abandon the project altogether and focus on something else. Don’t be me.
Focus on feedback. Don’t just publish every day. Listen to what resonates the most with the audience. Don’t just go on a product-creation spree. Validate your product idea, and once you start selling it, listen to what the audience says about it. Improve from there.
You won’t get that clear direction tomorrow. It’s a process of reiterating on every small action you take. It may take years, and that’s fine.
What is not fine is to rely blindly on consistency and not act on the feedback.
After all, it’s 2025. Mere consistency will only make you a commodity in a vast market. But a clear direction will take you much further in your work.
So, don’t just chase consistency. Seek clear direction.
